Fifth win for St Paul's Minors

St Paul's minor team recorded their fifth win in the Minor league with a outstanding performance away to Kilclief. Playing with the strong breeze in the first half St Paul's settled quickly and took control of the match. Conor, Rob and Steven gained control around the middle of the park and the Kilclief defence were under constant pressure. Conor, Ryan Tumilty and Chris Whelan had fine points for St Paul's in the opening ten minutes. When the home defence failed to clear the ball in a goalmouth scramble Ryan quickly drove it to the net.

In a rare home attack Kilclief converted what was to be their only point of the first half. St Paul's then moved up a gear and four fine points were added by Chris, Ryan, Rob and Stevie before a fine move down the left and a good call for a far post ball by Gavin resulted in him palming the ball home. It was now all St Paul's and Ryan added a further point before McT used his strength to poke the ball into the net in another goalmouth scramble.

When St Paul's were awarded a 45 Kilclief learned to their cost the folly of putting a small corner back on the line as Chris Whelan's fine kick went over his head for St Paul's fourth goal. Stevie then finished off a fine first half with a well taken point to leave the half time score Kilclief 0-1 St Paul's 4-9.

The half-time team talk stressed the importance of keeping the ball tight and the need for the forwards to cover back. As the half progressed the defence fought for every ball and Kilclief were unable to get close on goals. Dessie supported by Ryan Hughes and Wallsie in the full back line and the Williams brothers chased everything whilst Tony's sure handling in goals dealt with any shots Kilclief got on goal. Chris was able to go forward when we got the ball putting pressure on the home side forcing them to keep their defenders in their own half. Playing with the strong breeze Kilclief only managed six points while St Paul's had points from Chris and Stevie and in the last minute a fine individualistic goal from Rob leaving the final score Kilclief 0-7 St Paul's 5-11. This result ensures we finish at worst third in the league with the runners up position dependant on the final round of games. It is vital that we have a full turnout on Wednesday.
