U-21
All Ireland Semi
Final: Kildare 1-10
Down 0-10
Kildare qualified
for their first
Cadbury's All-Ireland
Under-21 football
final since 1976
thanks to a hard
earned three-point
win over Down at
Páirc Tailteann,
Navan.
A 26th-minute
Gavin Smullen
goal was the crucial
score, although
Down held a 0-07
to 1-03 interval
lead.
The sides were
level on three
occasions in the
third quarter.
Kildare then
took the lead
for the first
time since the
seventh minute
thanks to a point
from Joe Cocoman
and they held
momentum until
the end.

Limerick
Down netted
four goals as
they returned
to winning ways
against Limerick
in Sunday's Division
Three match at
Newry.
Aidan Carr drilled
in a penalty after
Benny Coulter
had been upended
by John Galvin
in the 18th minute.
Coulter then
squared the ball
to set up Daniel
Hughes for the
second goal while
corner-forward
John Clarke netted
twice in the second
half.
Limerick ended
with 14 men as
Thomas Cahill
was shown a straight
red card following
a clash with Jack

"The penalty
gave us a bit
of breathing space
and we went on
to play some good
football,"
said Down manager
Ross carr.
"A lot was
made of our defeat
last Sunday and
we were more disappointed
than anyone.
"We worked
hard in training
and got the result
today."

NFL:
LOUTH 2-10 DOWN
1-14
After leaking
two goals, Down
came good to steal
a one-point win
over Louth at Drogheda
this afternoon.
Late points from
Ronan Murtagh, John
Clarke and substitute
Paul McComiskey
helped the visitors
claim this hard-earned
win.
Substitute
Jamie Carr netted
to steer Louth into
a 1-04 to 0-03 lead,
but Down battled
back thanks to Kevin
McKernan's penalty
kick. Louth once
again gained control
on the restart until
Down's late trio
of points saw them
secure back-to-back
wins.
