An Riocht after last Friday
nights games 13/06/2003
Loughinisland's Gary Gordon
and An Riocht Michael O'Rourke
could be out of football for
the rest of the session after
games last Friday night. Gary
Gordon is recovering from
a hernia operation while An
Riocht's Michael O'Rourke
was unfortunate in their game
against Bryansford when he
suffered a fractured foot
minutes after going into the
game as a 'blood' substitute.
Bridge
Thirds overcome the kingdom
07/06/2003
Thirds:
Mayobridge 1.8 An Riocht
0.10
Mayobridge Thirds were very
fortunate to gain two league
points on last Monday evening
after a very mediocre performance
in which they squandered
many chances, and it took
a Niall Kennedy point in
the 61 st minute to secure
victory. An Riocht will
rue the large number of
wides they kicked over the
sixty minutes.
Clonduff
seniors continue the winning
run 03/05/2003
Clonduff had a valuable
1 point win at home over
An Riocht on Friday night.
Following heavy rain over
the last couple of days,
underfoot conditions were
woeful at Hilltown for this
Division 1 game in which
most of the crowd thought
should not have been played
because of the state of
the pitch. Clonduff - physically
smaller in most sectors,
coped the better and recovered
from a 3 point half time
deficit. An Riocht 1-03
Clonduff 0-03. Clonduff
started the better in the
second half and an own goal
help Clonduff get on top.
With minutes remaining Clonduff
lead by three points, but
An Riocht trough all at
the Clonduff defence and
if they had, had better
forwards would have won
the game. Final Score: Clonduff
1-8 An Riocht 1-7.
Elsewhere Mayobridge beat
Longstone by 2 points, Kilcoo
and Bryansford drew

An
Riocht tournament set to take
place at last
AN Riocht will hold their annual

date was changed due to Down's
All-Ireland qualifier on July
26.
The date change means that some
of the teams that were listed
to take part have had to pull
out, leaving the way open for
other teams. There are three
vacancies.
If your team would like to play,

Bredagh
U10's make it five wins from
six games
30/06/2003
Bredagh 6-9 An Riocht 3-3, Cherryvale
Saturday June 28th
It's now five wins from six
for a team that just gets better
and better with every outing.
Despite falling behind to an
early goal and having a few
goalbound efforts well saved
by the An Riocht goalkeeper,
the Bredagh boys settled into
their rhythm and the scores
duly flowed. Poacher supreme
Brian Cunningham got the first
two goals, then Niall Irwin
(who had set up one for Brian)
hammered home a cracker to the
top of the net, Danny Nolan
added two points and Tim Durkan
made it 4-2 to 1-1 at the break.
A few more Nolan points and
a Michael Moynagh goal put Bredagh
out of sight, though An Riocht
replied with 1-1. In the closing
stages, Nolan was on target
again and another Cunningham
goal made it an emphatic win.
Tim Durkan worked very hard
at midfield, Declan Magee showed
that his skills are now as impressive
as his courage with some superb
soloing, Daniel Steele deputised
very well in goals and Joe Shiels
was outstanding in defence.
In the subs game, the whole
panel get a good run-out with
Ciaran McColgan and Mark Quinn
stealing the show. Ciaran's
tenacious tackling was a joy
to watch, while Mark sent a
free to the top corner of the
An Riocht net.

An
Riocht win top of the table
clash 28/05/2003 AC
U-16FL: Rostrevor 2-10 An
Riocht 2.12
These two teams are running
away with the AC U16 league
and a huge crowb attended to
see this top of the table clash.
At times in this game An Riocht
overran the Reds' rearguard
and should have been further
ahead. At half time the scores
were level 1-06 to 0-9, with
Martin Clake scoring the An
Riocht goal. An Riocht as they
did in the first half started
the brighter scoring six points
without reply. On the 53rd minute
Darren Cunningham scored An
Riochts second gaol to put An
Riocht ahead 2-12 to 0-09. An
Riocht lost their concentration
in the final ten minutes and
Rostrevor scored two goals to
leave a nail bitting few minutes
for the An Riocht side.
Penalty
miss but it's all over early
on 28/05/2003 AC
Minor FC: Shamrocks 1-06
An Riocht 4-18
Despite missing an early penalty
An Riocht settled quickly
and had the result sewn up
by the end of the first quarter.
Pick of the scores were an
Aidan O'Hanlon point off an
exquisite Martin Clarke pass,
a Rory O'Hanlon goal taken
under heavy pressure, and
an Aidan O'Hanlon point after
Paddy Cordell robbed a defender
on the way out. Shamrocks
rallied at the start of the
second half but Rory completed
his hat-trick to ensure there
would be no upset.

An
Riocht pull off coaching coup
for underage Camogie
27/10/2003
For the 13 /17 age group things
are on the up in the Mourne
Area. An Riocht has pulled off
something of a coup with the
appointment of Ursula McGivern
(Armagh manager) and Patricia
McAvoy (Crossmaglen & Armagh
player) to coach the Kilkeel
girls over a ten week period
upto Christmas.
Other An Riocht Camogie mentors
have been about too as have
the hurling coaches. With three
weeks completed things appear
to be going well with the girls
and the coaches both enthusiastic
and a steady attendance of twenty-five
participants each night.
