creating some poetry. Thanks to

top prizes of a scooter each at
the Loughgall Country Park multi
activity fun day organized by
the Southern Area Health Promotion
Department. One hundred young

an adventure trail time trial,
mini football and penalty kicks,
pitch and putt, tennis for fun,
orienteering and nature walk.
Thanks to Maureen who organized
the day.

a bit of fun all under the auspices
of NMDC.
Canoeing
On Monday and Tuesday 30th &
31st July at the Albert Basin
Newry there is an opportunity
to experience canoeing through
the NMDC minority sports office.
Junior Camogie
The Junior Camogs successful run
came to an abrupt halt in St.
Johns on the eleventh night. The
girls traveled minus three players
away on holiday. The Johnnies
proved too strong on the night
winning 6.11 to 2.6 and we now
need to regroup with a vital league
match v Kilcoo this Wednesday
and a Championship clash with
Warrenpoint fast approaching on
1st August.
U18 Camogie
We play Clonduff in the Championship
at Dunavil on 17th August. The
home league game v Ballyholland
did not take place. The next league
match is on 20th August home to
Portaferry.
U16 Camogie
The Championship is now well behind
schedule. We play Clonduff with
the winners home to Atticall and
the winners of that to meet Warrenpoint
or Bryansford in the semi final.
The U16 CL is on hold until 1st
September when it will resume
with a semi final match.
U14 Camogie
In the Campionship semi-final
v Ballycran try as we might we
found the Ards girls just too
good. They were able to do at
the first attempt skills which
we needed a second or third opportunity
to complete. On the plus side
our team never gave up and showed
great heart to the finish.
The League semi final is also
v Ballycran.
U12 Camogie
The Championship replay match,
An Riocht v Clonduff, scheduled
for Saturday at Dunavil failed
to take place. The winners if
there ever are any play Ballycran
or Ballygalget in the semi final.
The league game home to Bredagh
was also put off.
Minor Football
In a holiday week challenge both
An Riocht and Rostrevor were under
strength. Reds made more of their
opportunities early on but we
played with a stubbornness that
prevented them easing clear. At
the break the gap was four points
0.3 to 0.7. We enjoyed a brilliant
third quarter and were level 1.5
to 0.8 before the visitors rallied
near the end forcing in a goal
from close range for a flattering
four point success. A useful workout
for both sides.
U12 Football
The boys resumed after the holiday
break with a great game against
Longstone. From goalkeeper to
full forward we were excellent,
our tackling, blocking, passing
and shooting were outstanding,
definitely our best performance
of the year so far. Nathan Mc
Comiskey had a man of the match
game in defence, midfield worked
very hard while up front Deaglan
Morgan finished top scorer with
one goal and three points, all
from play.Team: S Doran; R White
C Cunningham, P Mc Comiskey; O
McAlinden, N Mc Comiskey, J O’Rourke;
D Clarke 1.1, JP Farrell; L Rodgers
1.0, M O’Rourke 0.3, R Spiers
0.1, D Morgan 1.3, J Mc Burney.
Thirds Football
The Thirds fourth meeting with
Rostrevor this season fell through
due to holiday absenteeism.
Tournaments
The juvenile footballers have
a busy August to look forward
to with U8 tournaments in Mayobridge
on Sunday 5th August, in Longstone
on Saturday 18th August and in
Clonduff on Saturday 25th August;
U10 tournaments in Mayobridge
on Sunday 29th July and in Banbridge
on Saturday 1st September; and
U12 in Castlewellan on Saturday
4th August while there is an U10
Camogie blitz in Liatroim on Saturday
11th August.
Coaching
The South Down U14 Development
Squad coaching programme visits
Dunavil this Saturday from 10am
to 12pm.
PHAB
The Kids on the Block disability
awareness project aimed at four
to eleven year olds took place
as part of KYC summer scheme proving
an educational and entertaining
experience. The three foot tall
colourful characters brought to
life real life issues faced by
young people living with disability.
Also within the next couple of
weeks a lift will be installed
at KYC providing access to the
whole building for everyone.
W5
As part of the KYC summer scheme
a group visited the ‘Eye
for Colour’ and ‘Super
Slime’ interactive projects
at W5 in the Odyssey. Hands on
exhibits and interactive displays
helped young people understand
the science of colour, colour
in nature, in art and in everyday
surroundings. The fun aspect came
in the lab where everyone got
to manufacture their very own
lump of coloured slime as a reminder
of the day’s activities.
Our Rights, Our
Future

International Irish section offers
young people aged 15 / 17 the
chance to experience ideas and
issues through interactive participatory
workshops – games, activities,
discussions, art, videos, guest
speakers - in an atmosphere of
multiculturalism and respect for
diversity all at its Dublin International
Summer Camp. Contact Sheila for
details.

ensure the information was understood,
avoiding confusion and misconceptions
among the participants.
