Ballela Notes 12th December 2007

BALLELA DINNER DANCE

This was recently held in the Anglers rest on Saturday 24th November and was a massive success. With over 100 people in attendance the club made numerous presentations throughout the night and had various guest speakers in attendance to make the presentations.

The night began with the introduction of the Successful Ballela Camogs who won the County Intermediate Championship in 2007; Grace followed this from Father Paddy Joe Murray PP.
The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the Anglers rest for their hospitality and a first Class meal, which was enjoyed by all.
The presentations and speeches then took place after the meal.

Camogs

Maureen O’Higgins was the Guest speaker on the night and Maureen also takes position of the County Chairperson, which is no mean feat.
Maureen presented the following awards:
Noeleen Burns, Most improved Junior Player: Shauna Mc Cusker, Most improved Senior Player: Lisa Mc Cusker, Rising Star Award: Roisin Mc Polin, Runner up junior Player of the year: Fiona O’Neill, Junior Player of the year: Aisleen Pyers, Runner up senior player of the year: Mary Mc Clorey, Senior Player of the year: Ciara Mc Cusker, Players player of the year.
The Club Captain, Caroline Mc Cusker was then presented with the Intermediate championship trophy.

Hurlers

Michael Keenan was the Guest speaker on the night and Michael is also the Chairman of the County Hurling Board.
Michael presented the following awards to the players.
Ronan Mc Conville, Runner up Minor player of the year and most improved player: Malachy Magee, Minor Player of the year: Jonathan Mc Cusker, Runner up senior player of the year: Paddy Mc Polin,
Senior player of the year.
The club would also like to thank Joe Cosgrave, Brian Canavan and Noel Burns who managed the team through what was a difficult season.

There were also presentations made to members of the Ballela squad who represented the County at various levels throughout the year.
Stephen Mc Cusker, Gary Mc Mullan, Jonathan Mc Cusker, Daniel Mc Cusker and Danny Doran.
This is a very prestigious honour and the club is very proud of this. The club also believe that most of its senior squad can go on and represent the county in the seasons ahead as we have a very young, ambitious, determined and skilful squad.
Brian Canavan who is a Club Committee Member and also assistant Manager of our senior team is the Assistant Manager of the Down Junior squad, which is also a great achievement.

Tom Montgomery received the Club personality of the year award which was great reward for Tom as he put a lot of hard work, time and effort into developing the club website and the program for the official opening of Pairc Na Naomh. The club do appreciate this, as Tom is also the Treasurer on the Club Committee.

Fred Cunningham received the Hall of Fame award. Fred is now 91 years old and has been involved in the Club for most of his life and the club believed there was no better or deserving recipient for this award.

Councillor Seamus Doyle was also a guest speaker on the night.
Seamus was involved greatly with the opening of Pairc Na Naomh and as a member of Banbridge District Council; Seamus was also involved in the Club receiving a grant to help to pay for the costing of this.

The club takes this opportunity to thank everyone for their help over the year from the Grass Cutters, Maintenance Men, Lotto Sellers, Committee Members and many thanks also to the women who serve at the Burger stand when the Games are on.
The Club Chairperson, Bernard Mc Cusker also deserves great thanks, as this is a fully committed job and indeed a job on its own. We all hope that Bernard will continue on in this position in years to come.
