* Ballela U12's travelled
to Warrenpoint for the second
half off the league on Saturday
afternoon. Ballela fielded
minus six players but this
young team performed well.
Ballela started the better
and opened the scoring with
a goal from Ryan McCusker.
This was followed by a goal
from Conor Kelly. Sean Branniff
was having a good game in
midfield along with Conor
Branniff. Warrenpoint replied
with a goal in a very close
game. The final score of the
half was a point from Ryan
McCusker.

Ryan McCusker got a point.
Jack Rice in goals then pulled
off a couple of great saves
to keep the Warrenpoint forwards
out. The final score of the

against an older and bigger

* Ballela seniors travelled
to Ballygalget last Tuesday
night, which was seen as a
chance to register a first
win of the season against
an ‘Ards’
team.
Ballela lined out with the
same team as before with the
exceptions of Daniel Downey
starting for Daniel mc Cusker
who was unavailable due to
work commitments and Ryan
Haughey dropping into the
back line for the injured
Noel Burns.
Ballygalget came tearing
out of the blocks against
a quite surprised Ballela
team as they registered 1-04
without reply from the visitors.
Ballela then started to get
the sliotar moving as Danny
Doran made himself known to
the Ballygalget midfield with
some excellent challenges
and passes into the full forwards.
Ballela gained a few frees
as Johnny Mc Cusker stroked
these over the bar as the
gap narrowed on the home team.
Despite this, Ballela found
it hard to get going against
a fitter and hungrier Ballygalget
side that were taking their
scores at ease despite some
determined defending from
Paddy Mc Polin and Andy Mc
Givern who was the oldest
player in this young Ballela
side.
Ballela’s
half back line were struggling
with the opposition as they
gained territorial advantage
as the half went on and Donal
Mc Cann fought hard as he
struggled with an injury that
he had picked up from the
throw in. Niall Burns and
Ronan Mc Conville played some
good hurling in the second
half despite struggling in
the first half to contain
their men.
Ballela came out in the second
half needing a few scores
but the home team broke and
netted a goal in the first
few minutes, which seemed
to knock the heart out of
the young Ballela side. Ballela
took a while to register a
score after this setback but
Dan Downey who was making
his first start of the year
netted a goal that was followed
by a few more points from
Johnny Mc Cusker. Joe Cosgrave
got moved into the full forward
line was causing a few problems
for the Ballygalget defence
had made the run and pulled
the ball back for Dan.
The final minutes of the
game were played out as Ballela
had Paddy Mc Polin carried
of with what looked like a
recurrence of a knee injury
after a badly timed challenge.
The club are hopeful paddy
wont be out for long.
Despite the defeat there
were good performances all
round from the team as Gary
Mc Mullan played well again
in goals as he could do nothing
with the three that went in,
Noel Burns (jun) fought hard
with Dan Doran in midfield,
Mick Doyle, Niall Mc Aleenan
and Mark Cosgrave covered
a lot of ground and were unlucky
not to get more scores.
With no match this week due
to cemetery there is the chance
to get some much-needed training
done. Training on Monday and
Thursday at 7 pm.
