Ulster rivals Antrim
and Down have united in the name of
hurling in South Belfast.
BBC commentator Mark Sidebottom from
Glenariffe and Eamon Mulvenna from Glenarm
have joined forces with former Ballycran,
Down and Ulster star Danny Hughes to
launch a new senior team at city club
Bredagh.
They'll compete together in the County
Down Leagues with Mulvenna as manager.
"The new venture has come about
because of young players like Paul Doole
(pictured, front left) coming through.
He became the first Bredagh player to
make a county panel when he was called
up for the U-16s in 2004 and we need
to provide an outlet for the likes of
him. There's a queue of veterans like
Danny and Mark more than willing to
help the youngsters along, and we'd
welcome any other hurlers who might
be living in the area and want to join
up".
Eamon can be contacted on 07703210354
and the squad will gather for the first
time on Saturday, January 22nd at 1.30pm
in Cherryvale when Cork All Ireland
hurlers Pat and Dónal Mulcahy
will take the session.
They will also be special guests at
the Bredagh Hurling and Camogie Presentation
Night on the 22nd at the Rosario Youth
Club.
