Loup
earn fortunate win over the ford - 26/10/2003
Ulster
Club Championship 1st Round: Loup, Co Derry 0-10 1-6 Bryansford, Co Down
Shane
McFlynn's injury-time point earned Ulster Club Championship debutants Loup a somewhat
fortunate win over Bryansford at Maghera.
The Derry champions
seemed set for a facile victory when they charged into an early 0-5 to 0-0 lead
with Johnny McBride dominating the midfield exchanges and Paul McFlynn picking
off some fine points. However, Gerard Morgan then finished off a superb individual
move by hammering in a goal for Bryansford and three further points from the Down
side left them 1-3 to 0-5 ahead at the break.
Bryansford
finished the half with only 14 players with corner-back Johnny Cunningham receiving
his marching orders after picking up two yellow cards. However, the Bryansford
hit the opening two points of the second half to leave three points between the
teams but they failed to add another score in the final 20 minutes of the contest.
Loup gradually chipped away at Bryansford's lead and with the sides level when
the match entered injury-time, a replay seemed certain.
However, McFlynn then popped up in injury-time to settle the issue.
