Ballykinlar 2-05
Dundrum 5-15
Ballykinlar
brought the curtain down on their
2005 League campaign with a big
defeat against their parish rivals
Dundrum in a thoroughly
dissapointing encounter at Tadgh
Barry Park.
The Kinlar were
never expected to run their foes
close but a very laboured start by
the Duns allowed Gareth Mageean to
slide in for an early goal for the
homeside.
This goal was
enough to get Dundrum on the go
again. 1-05 in the space of eight
minutes put seven points in it.
Aaron Doyle was the goal getter.
Stephen Smith
made the most of a half chance to
register a point for the Kinlar on
21 minutes but another scoring spree
from Dundrum yielded 1-04. Kieran
Walsh had himself the major which
put a gap of eleven points between
the teams.
Damien Furphy's
lads picked themselves up after the
goal and a couple of frees left them
trailing by nine at the interval.
Early second half
points from Kieran Byrne and Paddy
Doran increased Dundrum's lead but
just as it looked like the game was
going to run away from the Kinlar,
Stephen Smith popped over a free.
Ballykinlar's
tactic of crowding out the midfield
was starting to affect Dundrum's
fluid play at times. Chances went a
begging but John McKibben, Kieran
Walsh and Martin Melville got the
Duns back on track with three well
hit scores.
Then out of
nowhere the Kinlar went on the
counter and their efforts were
rewarded with a goal. This shook
Dundrum which led to the management
wielding the axe. Five substitutes
were deployed and the fresh legs
made all the difference. Cormac
Venney, Kieran Walsh and Cathal
Kielty all netted and John Hurley
added a point to finish off the
Kinlar. However, inbetween these
scores Mark Smith hit the best point
of the night for the homeside after
taking on two defenders and
delivering a well executed effort
from his right boot.
This was a
dreadfully poor game. The standard
throughout was average at best and
the match lacked the passion and
fire that usually makes derby ties
so enthralling to watch. Division 4
football doesn't get much better
than this and Dundrum will know that
despite playing poorly the winning
result means another two points in
the bag.
