ACFL
Div 2: Glasdrumman 1-14 Carryduff 0-9 - 09/05/2003
By John Brennan Glasdrumman G.A.C.
Carryduff
made the journey to the Quarter Road on Friday night where they faced a very determined
Glasdrumman team. As in all their games to date Glasdrumman started the stronger
with Raymond Magorrian scoring the first point of the game after five minutes.
One minute later came the score of the game. The move started with Kevin Burns
at left back and four passes later Mick Mooney raced through to finish the ball
to the Carryduff net. Carryduff responded immediately with a point by Adrian Scullion.
Five minutes later Shane Feeney got his name on the score sheet with a well taken
point from play and almost immediately Glasdrumman were awarded a forty five.
Up stepped Cormac Murphy to strike the ball beautifully against the strong wind
for a well taken point. Carryduff fought back well and were rewarded three minutes
later when Ronan Lawlor pointed from a free followed by a point from Adrian Scullion.
J D Scott further added to the Carryduff tally with a point but it was left to
Raymond Clarke to finish the scoring in the first half with a point for Glasdrumman
to leave the halftime score.
Glasdrumman 1-4 Carryduff 0-4
Ronan
Lawlor opened the scoring in the second half with a point from a free for Carryduff
after two minutes. Some six minutes later Glasdrumman's full forward Declan Grant
got their first point of the second half followed almost immediately by Adrian
Scullion's third point of the game and Cormac Murphy second point from a forty
five. Adrian Scullion added another point to his and Carryduff's tally five minutes
later. Glasdrumman took control of the game from this point and were rewarded
with three points from play from Cormac Murphy, Raymond Clarke and Raymond Magorrian
followed by a point from a free by Cormac Murphy. Adrian Scullion pulled a point
back for Carryduff from a free but Glasdrumman responded with a well taken fisted
point from Raymond Clarke. Richard Maguire got his name on the score sheet with
a point for Carryduff but the last two scores of the game went Glasdrumman's way
when Raymond Clarke pointed from a sideline ball and Raymond Magorrian added to
his tally from play to leave the final score Glasdrumman 1-14 Carryduff 0-9
Overall this was a much better performance from Glasdrumman. The defence played
well and their tackling and covering especially in the second half was excellent
with Francis O'Neill and Cormac Murphy catching the eye. Pat Mallon and Mick Mooney
did well at midfield against the strong Carryduff pairing of Adrian Scullion and
Aidan McGirr. The forwards played well especially in the second half when they
started to take longer range points rather than sometimes overplaying the ball
with Raymond Magorrian and Raymond Clarke both having impressive games.
