John Brennan
Glasdrumman lost their unbeaten
record on Friday night by the
narrowest of margins against league
leaders Bosco after a tight match at
the Quarter Road. A low scoring
first half started with a goal after
five minutes to Bosco followed ten
minutes later with another point to
leave Glasdrumman four points in
arrears. The first fifteen minutes
of the half had been dominated by
Bosco and indeed their margin could
have been much greater but for some
dreadful shooting. Slowly
Glasdrumman started to assert
themselves and they were rewarded
with two points before halftime from
Paul McDowell, playing in his first
game of the season following an
injury. Despite severe pressure
Glasdrumman were unable to add to
their tally and the score at
halftime read Glasdrumman 0-2 Bosco
1-1.
Cormac Murphy got his name on the
score sheet after two minutes of the
second half but Bosco hit back
almost immediately with a point to
maintain their two point lead. After
fifteen minutes had elapsed the
score was all square following
points from Raymond Magorrian and
Raymond Clarke but Bosco went into a
one point lead two minutes later. On
twenty minutes Gary McGreevy had a
chance for a goal but his fisted
effort just skimmed the crossbar
and the game was all square yet
again. In the twenty third minute
Raymond Magorrian put Glasdrumman
ahead for the first time in the
match. Two points in a minute from
Bosco soon cancelled out the
Glasdrumman lead and indeed Bosco
increased their lead to two points
on twenty seven minutes. Glasdrumman
fought hard to regain their
advantage but with time running out
Pat Mallon scored to leave the final
score Glasdrumman 0-8 Bosco 1-6.
This was a game where Glasdrumman
had the upper hand for three
quarters of the game, following a
shaky first quarter. Their downfall
was their inability to take scores
when the chances presented
themselves and indeed as the game
progressed they totally lost belief
in their undoubted ability to score.
Had they taken half the chances
presented they would have been well
capable of securing the two points
on offer.
