John Brennan
Monday night
saw the visit of Saval to the
Quarter Road and those who attended
the match were treated to a feast of
football with scores coming thick
and fast. Saval opened the scoring
with a Colm Turley point but
Glasdrumman responded with four
points in a seven minute spell from
Raymond Clarke, two from Cormac
Murphy and Connaire Harrrison. Colm
Turley pulled a point back for Saval
and this was quickly followed by a
Daniel Hughes point but again Cormac
Murphy pointed for Glasdrumman on
twenty minutes. Saval then had
possibly their best spell of the
game as firstly Daniel Hughes
pointed followed within a minute by
a well taken goal from Niall Devlin
and two more points from Hughes.
Again Cormac Murphy pulled one back
for Glasdrumman but the final score
of the half fell to Fergal
McConville to leave the halftime
score Glasdrumman 0-6 Saval 1-7.
Saval started
the second half where they had left
off in the first with a goal from
Daniel Hughes followed by a Fergal
McConville point and a second point
from Hughes. A point apiece from
Cormac Murphy and Connaire Harrison
stemmed the Saval dominance but it
was short lived as they added a
further three points to their total
with scores from Michael McCarthy,
Daniel Hughes and Gary Digney.
Glasdrumman rallied their troops and
forced their way back into the game
with two points from Connaire
Harrison before Colm Turley pulled
one back for the visitors. A minute
later the ball was in the back of
the Saval net following some
sterling work from substitute James
McDowell but again a point from Colm
Quinn pegged the score back for
Saval. A minute later Cormac Murphy
pointed followed almost immediately
by a screamer of a goal from Declan
Grant to leave a goal between the
sides. However as time ran out
Daniel Hughes eased the pressure on
Saval with a last minute point to
leave the final score Glasdrumman
2-15 Saval 2-11.
This was a
good all round performance from a
Glasdrumman team short a few
influential players. One pleasing
aspect of the game was the
performance of the younger players
in the side who acquitted themselves
admirably against a good Saval side
