ONE TO FORGET FOR GLASDRUMMAN
SENIORS
Glasdrumman went into this derby
game on Friday hoping to put up a
good show despite being without some
key players and looking for their
first away points of the season.
Ballymartin opted to play with the
strong wind in the first half and
were a point ahead within two
minutes. Worse was to follow for
Glasdrumman as Ballymartin scored
what was a very disputed goal in the
fourth minute. A high ball was
hoisted into the Glasdrumman square
and was fisted into the goal, and
with the umpire signalling a square
ball the goal was awarded by the
referee. Not a good start, but
Glasdrumman did well to hold the
hosts scoreless for the next ten
minutes when Ballymartin scored a
free from fifty yards to put them
five points up. Ballymartin began to
turn the screw, and scored another
five points without reply to lead by
ten. Art McCartan replaced
Christopher McDowell in defence on
twenty five minutes before Connaire
Harrison scored a point from a free
kick in the last minute of the half
to leave the half time score
Ballymartin 1-7 Glasdrumman 0-1.
With
the wind blowing as strongly as it
was, a nine point deficit was not
insurmountable and the Glasdrumman
supporters hoped for a comeback.
However, the second half turned out
to be very similar to the first with
Ballymartin's defence holding firm.
Ballymartin had scored two further
points without reply by the forty
second minute when Shaun Brennan was
replaced by Neill McGreevy in the
forward line and Sean McVeigh
replaced Chris Cassidy in defence.
Ballymartin scored another point in
the fiftieth minute which was
followed by Glasdrumman's first
point of the second half in the
fifty sixth minute from the boot of
Connaire Harrison. Sean McDowell
scored Glasdrumman's third and final
point a minute later. Ballymartin
scored a second goal with a minute
to play, leaving the final score
Ballymartin 2-10 Glasdrumman 0-3.
This
was a disappointing result for
Glasdrumman as a much better show
against their keen rivals and
neighbours was anticipated. It was
one of those games when nothing
seemed to go right for Glasdrumman
with a number of uncharacteristic
wides, the next game can't come
quickly enough for the Glasdrumman
squad to get the frustration of this
game out of the system.
