GOAL FEAST AT QUARTER ROAD
Glasdrumman 2-6 Carryduff 4-8
Friday's opponents at the Quarter
Road were bottom of the table
Carryduff, but with Glasdrumman only
four points ahead in the League, a
tight match was expected.
Glasdrumman started well and were a
point to the good within the first
mniute with a point from Declan
Grant. Carryduff replied with a
point and in the eighth minute R
Carey burst through the Glasdrumman
defence to score a goal. Connaire
Harrison replied with a point from a
fourteen yard free and on seventeen
minutes a good run forward by
Raymond Magorrian led to a point
from Sean McDowell to reduce the
deficit to one point. Despite
pulling themselves back into
contention, Glasdrumman were hit by
a point and a goal from Carryduff's
A McGirr to increase their lead to
five points after twenty minutes.
Carryduff's McGirr scored another
point five minutes later followed by
a point from a fourteen yard free by
Connaire Harrison for Glasdrumman.
Glasdrumman pushed forward but a
missed scoring chance in the
Carryduff square led to the ball
being cleared down the field for
Carryduff's Carey to score his
second and Carryduff's third goal in
the final minute of the half to
leave the half time score
Glasdrumman 0-4 Carryduff 3-3.
The
second half began as the first
finished, with Carryduff's P O'Neill
firing over a point and Carey
scoring his third goal within two
minutes of the restart to put
Carryduff twelve points ahead.
Indeed it could have been worse only
for a good save from Ronan McDowell
only a minute later to deny
Carryduff another goal. Carryduff
kept the presuure on and by the
fortieth minute were fifteen points
ahead with two further points from
McGirr and one from Molloy.
Glasdrumman replaced Martin O'Neill
with Neill McGreevy and a minute
later Connaire Harrison scored a
point from a free. Christopher
McDowell replaced Christopher
Cassidy after a clash and Mark
Trimble came on for Darren Joyce in
the fiftieth minute. Almost
immediately, Raymond Magorrian
scored a goal following a break from
midfield by Pat Mallon. Carryduff
then scored what turned out to be
their final point with nine minutes
remaining but again Raymond
Magorrian scored another goal to
reduce the deficit to nine points.
Glasdrumman began to think they
could perhaps get something from the
game and with renewed vigour
continued to pour forward in search
of more goals. John McAteer replaced
Gary McGreevy for the final minutes,
but Glasdrumman found it very hard
to break down a determined Carryduff
defence for any further scores.
Connaire Harrison scored the final
point of the game from a free two
minutes into injury time to leave
the final score Glasdrumman 2-6
Carryduff 4-8.
