
St Columban’s U-16 Ladies Gaelic Football
Team has been participating in the Ulster League
this year for the first time in the school’s
history.
So far they have played two games.
In their first game they lost narrowly to St Malachy’s
Castlewellan 2-13 to 4-03. In their second game
they produced a brilliant 1st half performance
against Rathmore of Belfast scoring 4-03 with
Danielle Newell and Tara Bowater getting 2 goals
apiece and captain Laura Sloan getting the 3 points.
In the second half the defence were the heroes
with full back Caoimbe Poland and centre half
back Sinead Brannigan in outstanding form against
a strong breeze along with Rebecca Cunningham
and Jane Phillips. Add into this 2 excellent break
away scores from Laura Sloan and Lauren Cunningham
the St Columbans girls held on to record their
first competitive win in Ladies Football 4-05
to 0-05.
