Last Thursday night while
people were gathering at Newry City Hall to
listen to Rhydian, Same Difference and Shawadowaddy
at an open air concert organised by Newry and
Mourne District Council, there was another important
gathering of people in the Canal Court Hotel.
The Down G.A.A Supporters Club were holding
their annual general meeting.
The night was about remembering
and celebrating the year gone. The highlights
included the Down Senior Footballers winning
the Dr McKenna Cup, the Down U-21 Footballers
winning the Ulster Title and the Minor Hurling
team claiming the All Ireland C Title.
During 2008 the Supporters
Club also handed over of a cheque for £10,000
to the Down County Board. The money was raised
for the 2008 training fund through membership,
bus trips, donations, club draw, programme sales
and advertising space in Down’s home National
Football League Programmes.

Presentation to St Mary's
On the night the supporters
club made a presentation to St Marys High School,
Newry to mark their achievements in winning
the U-16 B All-Ireland title. A presentation
was also made to St Malachy’s, Castlewellan,
for winning the U-18 All-Ireland title.

At the end of the AGM the Supporters
Club carried out their now annual fundraising
draw, with St John Bosco Club winning first
prize, which included two nights B+B plus one
evening meal in the Skylon Hotel in Dublin.
