Cork beat Down in Allianz Football league

Sunday 9th February 2020

Down suffered their first league defeat of the season as they lost 0-16 to 1-8 away to Division Three leaders Cork.

Corey Quinn scored the Mournemen's goal nine minutes from time.

The hosts took advantage of playing with the Storm Ciara breeze in the first half and Damien Gore scored two points as they surged to a 0-8 to 0-2 lead at the interval at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Paddy Tally's men, who had won one and drawn one in the league before Sunday, rallied somewhat after the break but were unable to get back on level terms with their dominant hosts.

Cork showed bravery by going on the attack into the wind, with Quinn's goal from open play late in the match reducing their winning margin.

The visitors did create six chances after Quinn's strike, but were unable to find the target with any of them.
