Longstone pull off surprise win over Warrenpoint in opening Down SFC game

The Down senior championship began last night with the clash of Warrenpoint and Longstone.  Longstone pulled off a surprise win 1-05 to 0-07.  Warrenpoint who just two weeks ago lifted the Down All County League tite for the first time in their history will now go into the back-door, while Benny Coulters side look forward to Round 2.

The difference in the sides was a Michael Ireland goal for Longstone on the 24 minute.  The score at half time was Longstoen 1-05 Warrenpoint 0-05.  The second half was full of defending, with Longstone failing to score, while CPN could only manage two points - 1 from a McGarry free and a point from play by Ryan Boyle.

Down SFC continues this evening when Burren take on Saul in Liatroim with the game throwing in at 7.30pm.
