Our Lady and St Patrick's Knock

Tuesday 24th January 2017

Nestled away in a quiet and secluded little corner of Co. Down is Our Lady's and St. Patrick's College, Knock. In fact its so 'off-the-beaten-track' in the context of Down GAA that most Down folk, including a high proportion of its GAA aficionados even forget that its there. Some interest was inspired back ten years ago when the school progressed to contest an All-Ireland Colleges 'C' final with a promising bunch of local lads, including eleven panellists from the Carryduff club, one of whom, Seán Molloy, picked up an Ulster Colleges All-Star Award for his contribution that year.

Since then Carryduff GAC juvenile players have continued to represent Our Lady's and St Patrick's College with pride.

2016 was a year of remarkable achievement for the school as it secured two Dankse Bank Ulster Colleges Football and two Dankse Bank Ulster Colleges Hurling All Star Awards. The East Belfast College is the only school in Ulster to have achieved All-Star awards in both Football and Hurling and is producing Gaelic Athletes of the highest calibre in the Colleges sector.

Carryduff GAC contributed three of the recipients - Josh Connery and Daniel Guinness picked up Football All-Star awards and Peter Loughran picked up a Hurling All-Star award.

Carryduff GAC is understandably very proud to see three of its players achieving such high level accolades and delighted that the grounding given in club development has paid such dividends for these young men

There is little doubt that each of these individual young people must harbour ambitions of representing their County and donning that famous red and black jersey to further develop and display their skills on that higher stage.

And who knows?  . . . . . It may well be the case that County managers and Selectors may be tasking their Sat Navs to find that quiet and secluded little corner of County Down during term time.

Go n-éirí 'An Cnoc', go n-éiri Ceathrú Aodha Dhuibh 's An Dún Abu.
