Samaritans Awareness Talks to Down GAA Club Committees

Monday 11th January 2016

My name is Lisa Doyle. I am the Samaritans GAA Liaison Officer for Down. In 2014 the GAA formed a partnership with the Samaritans where we have become an integral part of the Health and Wellbeing drive within our Gaelic organisation.

Last year I made a presentation to the Down Health and Wellbeing Committee outlining the partnership that has been formed between the Samaritans and the GAA, and what we have to offer the clubs. The committee were excited about what we will be offering and promised me their full support in this endeavour. From this the Samaritans poster has been given prominence on the Down Website and our presence is increasingly visible at all county matches.

To develop this further, in the coming months, it has been agreed that I would visit every club in Down to meet with yourself, your Health and Wellbeing Officer and your Chair of committee to explain the awareness talks which we hope to deliver in every club, and the Listening workshops that we will further develop from these, where we will train some of the key adults in each club in the skills that we, as Samaritans, use every day.

I would be very grateful if you could come back to me with a date before Easter that would be suitable for me to meet with you. Could you also forward me the name and contact details of your Health and Wellbeing Officer, as they are not currently available on the county website?

Is mise le meas,

Lisa
